For most of the crews, Monday was a tough day - also fro the French Team Dessoude. Moreover, the temperature is scorching since Sunday and the crossing of the gray dunes of El Nihuil was not so easy.
In the Team Dessoude, this second stage stuck the crews in the area of the dunes, between km 296 and km 369. Régis Delahaye has paid the fees but Yves Tartarin and Jean-Pierre Strugo were not either at the party. Finally, Frédéric Chavigny and Guy Leneveu with the Atacama are the first of the Dessoude crews to cross the finish line at the 48th position, 40th overall.
As Sunday, the crew of the Proto Atacama focused on progress with a regular pace despite different terrains. Tonight in the Top 40 overall, Fred and Guy had set a goal of achieving a good first week. This objective is currently well underway.
"The day was particularly hot, which is quite painful in the cockpits," Frédéric Chavigny said. "We drove well on the fast section and then, in the dunes, we wanted to try shovels. I confirm they work well! Indeed, I made a small mistake and we stuck. The car was perfect and the new shock absorbers really make a difference. I’m satisfied of the start of the race because the first two stages were quite tough. "
The second crew to reach San Rafael is Jean-Pierre Strugo and Bruno Catarelli. A lot of time lost in the dunes but Jipé arrived ahead Yves Tartarin who experienced the same frustrations today.
Jean-Pierre Strugo’s comments: "I was three years late in terms of problems on track. We stayed for 7 hours on track, about two hours more. We first got lost and then stuck twice in the dunes, I was testing the two-wheel drive driving. Then we lost the inflation system hose. Is another day."
Finally, the day was very complicated. Régis Delahaye and Jean-Paul Forthomme had a difficult stage and had to wait several hours for the T4 truck, to get out of this mess.
