|Dakar Rally 2014: Ex-Robby Gordon Hummer and Al Rajhi not competing.|
Some days before we published an impressive video of the Saudi Arabian Yazeed Al Rajhi, testing with the former Robby Gordon Hummer Prototype in the desert of Morocco for the Dakar Rally. "My dream is to compete in the Dakar, my dream is to win the Dakar" Yazeed - who is also competing in WRC and Middle-East rallysport - said. Together with the French Alex Winocq, well known as navigator of US-French Eric Vigouroux, he wanted to participate in 2014.
But we can´t find Yazeed in the competitors list, even if there are some open numbers... what happened? In March the Saudi Arabian was competing in the "Ha´il Saudi Rally" in Saudi Arabia [ WE REPORTED ] and had a very bad crash whilst leading the race in front of the Czech Miroslav Zapletal (Czech Hummer Proto). "Yazeed wants to compete, but because of his injury he cannnot sit more than 40 minutes in the car" today (Thursday) a friend of the team reported to marathonrally.com.
"The Dakar Rally is a long and difficult race. I don´t want to risk my rehabilitation and sporting ambitions. Even if the Hummer is able to compete in front I decided not to compete in the Dakar 2014" the Saudi Arabian confirmed.
This are no good news - even because it would be interesting to see the Hummer participate again in the Dakar - with a very strong and fast driver behind the steering wheel and a very good navigator next to him. "It´s also sad for Alex," the team said. "He was working very hard for the team, always pushing, never getting tired."
Robby Gordon after the Dakar Rally 2013 sold his two Hummer prototypes to the Belgian "MY Racing Team", also well known in the "normal" rallysport. MY Racing combined "US-Gordon-Power" with "European FIA knowlegde". With extensive know-how and long experience in the field of motorsport, the Belgian team decided to rebuilt the Hummers - one of the goals was to complete the development of the American buggies and adapt them to actual FIA standards.
"The tests in Morocco were really successful," confirmed Luke Manset (Coordinator MY Racing) to the Magazine [ AUTONEWS ]. "The technical solutions designed by our team both in terms of engine and chassis showed a big step forward in the performance of the Hummer. With the new configuration, our Hummer is ultimately more efficient."
