Dakar Rally 2014: Iveco-pilot Gerard de Rooy still on the lead after SS10.

On Wednesday, Czech Tatra-driver Ales Loprais surprised friend and foe by taking the lead in the trucks from almost the beginning of the stage onwards. He makes the difference by taking the dunes in one time while both Gerard de Rooy (Iveco) and Karginov (Kamaz) make a few minor mistakes.

Loprais finished in 05:10:55 hours, Karginov was already at the bivouac at that time and sees that his end time is not enough to beat the Tatra-pilot. The difference after 446 km´s is only 37 seconds. Gerard has to give up 6:10 minutes and was 5:33 minutes behind Karginov. He´s still on the lead in the Overall Rankings, 7:55 minutes ahead of Karginov. Whether this will be enough for the 1st place in Valparaiso...it´s still too early; Thursday another heavy stage and Dakar wouldn´t be Dakar if the dangers wouldn´t lie in ambuscade until the last meter.

Gerard de Rooy at the finish: "It was a beautiful stage Wednesday. Much better than Tuesday and also today in the beginning huge dunes and nasty desert sand. I enjoyed, didn´t go to the limit but we did move on very well. We had a little damage in the dunes but not that bad. For the rest we didn´t have any technical problems so the differences in a stage like remain small."

Hans Stacey had a few problems in the dunes and lost some time but after that he started a race to recover lost ground. Coming from a 15th place he ended up 9th.

The team Petronas – de Rooy – Iveco has mixed feelings these days. The tension mounts due to the great performance of Gerard de Rooy. At the other hand, he often has to do it all by himself as Hans Stacey is dogged by bad luck almost every day and the fast service trucks are not able to keep up with the absurd high speeds because of their heavy vehicles.
