|Dakar Rally 2014: Poland´s Neoraid team - good to have two X-raid BMW.|
You remember the "Neoraid Team" from Poland? In 2011 we reported about the team of Piotr Beaupre and Jacek Lisicki, which were in the lucky situation to buy one of the late X-raid BMW X5CC after they experimented with a Range Rover amateur-car (Breslau/Wroclaw-Rally), the well improved Bowler/QT Wildcat and later a Bowler Nemesis (yes the British Rallycar which looks great but mostly failed in rallyraid because it´s imprudent construction).
The X5 in contrast to the Nemesis was a perfect and reliable rallycar, but little old-fashioned. So the Polish team decided to rebuilt the design of the X-raid rallycar to it´s actual design, under own management, with a regional partner - unique in the history of former X-raid BMW. You can review the Video [ HERE ].
The X5 was nice, the crew startet in 2012 and finished 52nd: "I've been competing since I was 18 years in age in races all over the world: Africa, in European Baja races, in Mongolia. The Dakar was my ultimate goal. It took quite some time to finally get there. Getting older and older, the 2012 Dakar was ´now or never´," Piotr Beaupre said after the race. "It was a very difficult race to cope with. I was impressed and proud to be able to finish after having bad accidents and damaging the car. Our BMW seemed not to like the dunes. I was just happy to finish."
In 2013 Beaupre and Lisicki wanted to know it again: "I'm an ambitious man. I now know that I'm worthy of a top 30 spot and that's why I'm coming back," Beaupre said before the race. And he should be right - the team finished on 37th position.
Enough honor for the team? No. If you have again the chance to get a former but more actual X-raid BMW (and have the budget), you will take the chance. So the Neoraid crew "updated" their fleet with a X-raid BMW X3CC for the 2014 Dakar.
In summer 2013 they bought the X3CC, a car which looks similar to the X5CC to ordinary fans - but between the both cars were 7 years of development and we don´t need to tell you what this especially means for prototypes... The car has the power to reach the Top 10 - especially the X-raid crew is using X3CC for customers today and the winning X-raid Mini´s are based on them.
To have a ´state-of-the-art´ car is an other dream which came true for the Polish team, even if they have to ´think new´. The car and it´s technology are different, also the handling. The mechanics had to gain knowledge of the construction and repairing, also the team need to upgrade their spare-parts, because the X5 components were not compatible with the new car. "The new car is much more complicated than the previous one," team manager Peter Wyczynski said - to say it in simple words.
The BMW X3CC already had it´s premiere at the "Baja Poland" in 2013 in the area of Drawsko Pomorskie in the North-West of Poland, where usually the legenday "Breslau/Wroclaw rally" or "MT Rally" takes part. "The organizers did not use the potential of this place, but for us it was a nice test of the new BMW," the team reported.
So, finally the team will start with the "new" X-raid BW X3CC... but what happened to the former X5CC? The car is still in use by the team: "We actually were for testing reasons in Morocco near Zagora to get some more experience in the dunes," Beaupre and Lisicki reported. "Whilst all the Dakar cars are on their way to South America, we joined the French experts Isabelle Pattisier and Thierry Delli-Zotti to get some more experience in the sand. It´s great to have the X5CC as a ´Back-Up-Car´."
