Dakar Rally 2014: Tough week for T2-Dakar winner Xavier Foy - his week.

After a first week of Dakar full of difficulties, the Fojmotorsport Coopertires team has enjoyed on Friday a more peaceful stage, achieving second place in finish line in T2 (production cars) category and 38 in the general absolute with their Toyota Land Cruiser rallycar.

"The stage was very technical," driver and T2-Dakar winner 2013 Xavier Foj said. "During the first part I have been forced to take risks to overtake cars and trucks, as we were starting from far behind. We've eaten a lot of dust. The second part was perfectly suited to our qualities, but during the last sixty kilometers we have been blocked by two cars that have not responded to the Sentinel. Happy with the result, although we could have won the stage."

During the rest day, Xavier Foj reviews different aspects of the race of this year. "The perception of hardness depends on how you get to each one, but what is certain is that this year has been especially hard for the duration of the stages, very long, with no time to rest. Therefore, the number of pilots who have been forced to leave the race. The definition of this Dakar would be 'sustained hardness'," he said in the camp in Salta.

"Under the circumstances, is to be satisfied, because we must keep in mind that, in fact, we had left the competition. Only work, perseverance and a little luck (luck sought, of course) allowed us to repair the car and now we can face the race with a chance."

"The team is strong and lively, especially on the rest day, having been able to sleep and rest. But the test of our mental strength is decided facing stage 5, after repairing the car, six hours behind the race with broken tracks, with unbearable heat and night, reaching the camp at dawn, repair the mechanical as well as possible and get back out to dispute the sixth stage, in which we were able to recover positions and time. Throughout the race we have been perfectly blended, facing all challenge. I see no reason not to make a very good second week."

"The car is well, used, but well. We know it well and is firm. Unless we have again an electronic problem, which is unknown, shall be in a position to finish the race. The goal right now, realistically, is the podium, i.e. reach Yacopini and dispute third position. He is a local driver, with good structure and experience, but, under normal conditions, the hour and a half delay we should be retrievable."

"As being this year's race, I would say all, but certainly, as we said before arriving here, the two stages around Iquique and El Salvador will be key, especially because they will make a larger difference. The most important thing will be not to be trapped and we have an advantage with our Cooper tires. In the dunes of Fiambalá we deflated the wheels very much and really gives confidence to have no problem with them, you dare to get you where others do not. For the remaining stages, this will be a key factor."

"We are confident we can fight for the podium, it's not easy, but possible. We also know that there are many people behind us: our sponsors, they give us full support in addition to material, the media and also the fans. In the worst moments, we have felt how you push from home. We are very grateful, and when we return, we will give you thanks personally."
