|Dakar Rally 2015: Last phase prepping the El Martillo Racing’s Dodge Durango|
The last phase of preparation for El Martillo Racing’s Durango race car heading to the 2015 Dakar Rally has started and it is almost ready for a final testing session.
Almost one year ago, July 2013, the Durango was no more than a design and a dream, the building process started in this same month, starting a rushed race to finish it and have it ready for the 2014 Dakar Rally. After 5 hard work months, the car was delivered on December the 9th, just 27 days before the "green flag" in Rosario, Argentina.
This year, before July ends, the car is ready with a lot of improvements such as the torque converter (the word "clutch" was taken away of the team’s dictionary), a brand new industrial air conditioning system and the tire inflation system, among other minor but not less important systems, like cooling upgrades for oil and gasoline and some modifications to the suspension. The team is certain all this will make the car better.
To complete the task of prepping the Durango for its 2nd Dakar challenge, early August, the team will drive up from the tip of Baja, Mexico, to the sand dunes and desert of Altar, Sonora. The purpose of this trip is to duplicate the weather and terrain environments expected in the deserts of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile in the next Dakar Rally.
The trip is being planned to test all the improvements of the car and to try to find any weak points or surprises… This will not be only a trip to test the race car, but to start developing a good relationship between the team’s crew that will go the Dakar 2015. The complete team will attend this important test trip for El Martillo Racing.
This trip will also be the 1st event for El Martillo’s new Crew Chief, Canadian Scott Rattray and two other new members. Scott has extensive off road and stage rally experience, working for Subaru Rally Team Canada and with Robby Gordon on his Trophy Truck and Dakar team. He will interact for the first time with most of his mechanics crew for the 2015’s Dakar in South America, January 3th to 17th.
