|Desafio Ruta 40: A crowd cheered on the competitors - changes in S2 Tuesday|
The Argentinian "Desafío Ruta 40" rally got on its first gear before a crowd that got to the Civic Center of Bariloche to cheer for their idols. The first stage, “Bariloche-Bariloche”, which will start today (Monday), will have a total of 78 participants.
Competitors enjoyed their last relaxed day before the start of the competition. The Civic Center of San Carlos de Bariloche was the epicenter of the activities for Sunday after the administrative checks and technical scrutineering the Bivouac located in the Municipal Veldrome of the city. By the end of the afternoon, competitors got on the ramp located in the emblematic touristic point in the Patagonic city, which hosted a crowd of fans who enjoyed all the vehicles.
Desafío Ruta 40 will be the first round of the Dakar Series calendar and it will also be the opening round for the South American and Argentine calendar of this specialty. The race will start today so as to finish the first stage which start and finished in San Carlos de Bariloche. The event will also visit the cities of Zapala, Malargüe and San Juan, where the award-giving ceremony will take place on April 12th.
The weather conditions will be key for this stage, first ones to start will have to go through soft surfaces tracks because of the rain that fell in the región during the whole weekend. The rest will be able to take that track from the first ones as a guide but then they will have to figure out the best choice. Weather conditions will level competitors out and will give a special flavor to the first stage of Desafío Ruta 40 2014.
From 8 in the morning on, competitors will leave the Bivouac to head to the start of the stage. Pablo “Cacha” Rodríguez will be the first one to start, and then Javier Pizzolito and Alberto Ontiveros will follow.
Then, Sebastián Halpern on board his Yamaha Raptor 700 will be the first quad to start the stage from 8:33 am on. The Young man Jeremías González Ferioli and Lucas Bonetto will be the following ones.
In the Cars categoty, the last CARCC champion, Alejandro Yacopini together with Daniel Merlo will flat out on board their Toyota at 9:30, this will start the category race. Two minutes after that, Omar Gandara and his co-driver Alejandro Fenoglio will start the race, and then Pablo Maranzana and Eugenio Arrieta will follow
The Organization of Desafío Ruta 40 has decided to modify the Second Stage between Bariloche and Zapala due to impassable roads because of heavy rains that fell on the region during the last days.
It will be on this way that the second stage to be held on Tuesday, April 8th; will have the same itinerary as Stage 1 to be run tomorrow. After the selective sections, the caravan will leave towards the Municipal Sports’ Hall of Zapala, where the second bivouac of Desafío Ruta 40 will be located.
