|Donaldson CC: Successful South Africa debut year for Team Ford Racing|
"Atlas Copco Gold 400", the final round of the South African "Donaldson Cross Country Championship", took place this weekend. Team Ford Racing´s Chris Visser and Japie Badenhorst had a tough day at the office eventually finishing in 6th place in the SP Class. Although not the result they were aiming for, it was enough to ensure they retained their second place in the South African national championship.
"It was a very difficult weekend," said Visser. "We suffered punctures during the prologues and the race and unfortunately we weren´t able to fight our way back."
While the final round proved somewhat disappointing for the team, overall 2013 delivered many great results. The team debuted the new Ford Ranger´s at the start of the season. They were immediately on the pace winning the prologue in their first race and went on to finish 1st and 2nd overall for the event. Since then the Ranger has been on the podium at every event this season barring the final round.
"It´s been a great year," said Ford Racing Manager, John Nagel. "We´ve learnt a great deal throughout the year and enjoyed some phenomenal results. I´d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and support. We now look ahead to an even bigger challenge with the 2014 Dakar just around the corner."
Team Ford Racing has confirmed it will enter two South African-built Ford Rangers in the gruelling 2014 Dakar, taking place from 05 - 18 January 2014 in South America.
The design team responsible for bringing Ford´s Dakar contender to fruition includes a mix of the local team that currently competes in the Donaldson Cross-Country Championship and global minds. Chris Visser will be driving in his first Dakar alongside teammate Lucio Alvarez from Argentina.
"We are extremely proud to be sending these South African-built Rangers to the 2014 Dakar," added Nagel. "Dakar is the ultimate test of man and machine and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate with a phenomenal team comprised of local and global expertise."
