Early interest generated for NZ´s Rallyfeste weekend.

The "Dunlop Ruby Rallyfeste weekend", being organised to take place at Hamilton’s Mystery Creek Events Centre in New Zealand, over the weekend of 23rd - 25thth March 2007, is already drawing interest from many different factions of the sport.

Event chairman Laurie Brenssell comments, "It is pleasing to see early interest for the weekend’s events coming, not only from the sport’s competitors, both past and present, but also from administrators, photographers, and rallying supporters. We need to remember this weekend is being organised to celebrate four decades of New Zealand Rallying, and already there are names registered who I don’t recognise. However these are people who must have been involved somewhere along the way, and we want them to be part of this weekend, such is their interest".

One such person already having registered his interest is Hauraki farmer Don Brunt. Don competed in the very earliest of rallies, back in the late 1960’s, driving a MKI Ford Cortina. Besides having a number of "old" cars in the back shed, Don and his extended family are still very much involved competing and supporting rallying today. It is always pleasing to see young people coming into the sport, and 15 year old Adam Percival is no exception. Adam’s dad, Murray, competed in the 1983 Sanyo Rally of New Zealand driving a Ford Escort, and is still rallying today. They have a couple of Escort’s in their garage today, one of which Adam has his eye on.

The "Dunlop Ruby Rallyfeste weekend" will take the form of a reunion of competitors and enthusiasts from the past four decades of New Zealand Rallying. The weekend’s celebrations will include a competitive special stage rally "event", and a reunion "function" including displays and a dinner. Further information including registration details are available on the Dunlop Rallyfeste website - [ www.rallyfeste.co.nz ].
