 | Estoril-Marrakech: David Casteu is the new leader after Wednesday.
|
It was not until the passage from Africa to mainland Europe for the bikes category gain new momentum and new leader. In fact, David Casteu (Sherco) wasted no time and managed to nullify the disadvantage that brought Portugal to the then leader Hélder Rodrigues (Yamaha) - 7:52 - and gained two positions and is now in front of the race, albeit only with the 27 seconds advantage.
Having already surpassed the 10 hour race, the Vodafone Rali TT Estoril-Portimão-Marrakech remains the uncertainty as to the places on the podium, with four riders separated by just over 11 minutes. Foreseeing the sand stages missing, anything can happen. From this it will be aware Helder Rodrigues and Ruben Faria (KTM) with the national duo entering in a different way into Moroccan territory.
While Ruben Faria was second in the leg from Nador to Er Rahidia, with the Merija special stage long of 255.7 kilometers, the former leader was only fourth, losing 8:19 to the winner of today's leg (Casteu). In front of Rodrigues finished also Frans Verhoeven (BMW) with the Dutch to place himself in fourth, 6:45 in front of Faria.
Paulo Gonçalves (BMW) - author of an excellent recovery after over 20 minutes lost in the first day with mechanical problems - was fifth, ahead of Jose Manuel Pellicer (KTM), David Megre (KTM) and Luis Correia (Yamaha). Correia was in a podium position until a penalty of more than two hours (speeding in one the limited area still in Portugal) to have shot down in the standings and is now the 11th, with Mario Patrão three positions above - the national champion TT went from 4th to 8th general.
