 | Estoril-Marrakech: Green light given to the organization of new rally.
|
Goodbye Rally TT Transibérico, welcome Rally TT Vodafone Estoril-Portimão-Marrakech. The challenge planned by Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) for a different race of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies is a reality and caused enormous enthusiasm among all authorities and sponsors involved in another great international ACP organization.
"Rally Vodafone Transibérico's shape needed a kind of refreshment and we came to the conclusion that it was essential to outline a new and striving challenge, preserving the prominent position our club occupies in the panorama of the major international cross-country rallies", referred Carlos Barbosa, Chairman of Automóvel Club de Portugal. He added that "drawing a new competition, of this specific sort, in such an appealing region, as it is the case of Africa, makes great sense and I am particularly pleased with the fact that we managed to assure the required support for a proposal of this nature."
The Rally TT Vodafone Estoril-Portimão-Marrakech will take place from the 5th-13th of June and according to Orlando Romana, in charge for the organisation, «our main worry about this new date was avoiding the coincidence with the FIFA World cup, ensuring hereby the maximum return not only for the teams, but also for the sponsors. I am quite sure that this will be the case and what concerns ourselves, we are working for a long time on this new and exciting challenge. »
In Portugal, the race will start in Estoril, continuing on the road to Portimão, during four days, until the boarding towards Morocco for another four days of race. The basic lines of the project are already drawn and the ACP teams will soon be in place to accomplish the final details of the approx. 3000 km long route.
The entries will open on February 1st for cars, bikes, trucks, quads and UTV. For more informations please visit [ www.estorilportimaomarrakech.com ] (en construction).
