The Dakar Rally in South America has just ended and the Scandinavian team Pewano can now for the first time show the unique launch for the Dakar 2012 - the Pewano XC60 RR.
The entrepreneur Pelle Wallentheim and motorsport profile Tina Thoerner have in collaboration with world-class mechanics and engineers developed and built one of the most powerful race cars for the Cross Country Rally. The production in Gothenburg, Sweden, has been going on for over a year. For the first time, Pewano can show the next year's winning car.
The Pewano-Volvo XC60 RR is a custom-built Volvo XC60 for the Cross Country Rally and the Dakar. The race car has a Volvo-based design where the carbon fiber shell has been shaped to emulate the original. The Rally Raid car is also 180 mm wider than the regular XC60.
The world premiere of Pewano XC60 RR in Volvo Showroom was a popular event and attracted many motorsports fans among others, and everybody got to be part of a unique launch when the high-technology race car was shown for the first time. Tina Thörner talked about the background and said: "This is the largest investment ever in the Cross Country Rally in Sweden and Scandinavia."
When Thörner presented the team and the Pewano XC60 RR, she had the German Dakar legend Jutta Kleinschmidt on her side - who is the first and only female to win the Dakar: "I can really feel that team Pewano is excited and motivated," says Kleinschmidt. "I know there’s some work left to get the car in the absolute best condition - but at the same time you can see the entire project's great potential, and it’s also in the right time, Kleinschmidt continued."
With this initiative Pewano hope to inspire the competition form in Sweden, while they want to show the great potential of Scandinavian engineering and knowledge. The goal is set high and with even higher ambitions. Pewanos core values are equality, co-operation and adventure. The team is led by people who together have 134 years of experience in motorsports and enterprise. Tina Thörner has the role of the International Team-coordinator and in the front of the Pewano project is the owner and driver Pelle Wallentheim.
"With our slogan "Made in Scandinavia" we focus on building a successful team where we primarly will use Scandinavian know-how and expertise," says Wallentheim. "We also want to contribute to a environmentally friendly - green - motorsport, while we aim to be top of the podium in both competitions and when it comes to development and innovation, Pelle continues."
Right now Pewano launches the first race car, but the plan is to participate with two competitive Pewano XC60 RR in Dakar 2012. The first race for the Pewano team is the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in April 2011.
