FIA African Heritage: The South African Event is a go ahead.

The organizers have successfully staged the observed event, they have paid their 2006 inscription fee to the FIA and they, more than anybody, realise the most important event for them to run successfully their first FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup Event from July 29 to August 5. Due to financial constraints the organizers have chosen to run their first event in Mpumalanga, the home of the very successful FIA Observed event. Unfortunately the Northern Cape, the proposed financial partners, could not justify the substantial year one investment to run the international event.

The event will start and finish in the picturesque town of Lydenburg and take in some of the most beautiful terrain South Africa has to offer.

The organizers have a solid infrastructure at our disposal to ensure the success of the African Heritage Cross Country Rally. They have the unconditional support of local authorities in the areas where the event will run, which includes the SAPS, traffic officials, medical institutions, ambulance services and civil defence units and government, municipal, tribal and private landowners.

The safety of all concerned is important and adequate steps will be taken to ensure that medical emergency services are available throughout the event.

South Africa is a major import/export hub and has world class facilities for air freight, sea freight and ground transportation. Durban boasts a modern shipping terminal and all sea freight would be to and from this port. It is intended that spare parts would be transported on container trucks.
