 | FIA World Cup 2011: Novitskiy, Schlesser and Kuznetsov strenghten their lead.
|
X-raid and the duo of Leonid Novitskiy (Russia) and Andreas Schulz (Germany) came a big step closer reaching their goal of retaining the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies by winning the "Hungarian Baja", which finished on Sunday in Gyor (we reported ).
This victory in the 5th round of the international championship means that Leonid Novitskiy extended his lead in the overall standings over Frenchman Jean-Louis Schlesser (Schlesser Buggy) and Stéphane Peterhansel (X-raid Mini All4) dramatically. Novitskiy and Schlesser seems to be unbeatable now - but behind the two leaders it could be interesting.
There is another X-raid crew, with their private car fighting (now) for the podium: Miroslav Zapletal and Tomas Ourednicek from Czech Republic strenghten their 4th position - and still have the good opportunity, to beat Peterhansel and reach the podium.
Boris Gadasin from Russia (G-Force Proto) collected also important points and climbed the 5th World Cup position before Joan "Nani" Roma (X-raid BMW X3CC), Filipe Campos (X-raid Mini All4) and Laurent Rosso (T2 Dessoude Nissan Pathfinder).
In the T2-class for factory cars, the Russian Ilya Kuznetsov (Toyota Land Cruiser) still takes the lead, even after his 6th (17th overall) position in the Hungarian Baja. He´s still followed by the French-Dubaian Laurent Rosso (Dessoude Nissan Pathfinder) with 50 points and Valentino Bombelli and Roberto Roberto Ciampolini (both 37 points, Italy, Mitsubishi).
But the 2011 season is not over yet. There are still two races to go: The legendary "Pharaons Rally" in Egypt and the "Baja 500 Portalegre" in Portugal. Especially the Pharaons Rally will counted with double FIA-points - because the rally is a one-week marathon-event (new FIA regulation after the conclusion of the series "Cross Country Rallies" and "Cross Country Bajas"). And this could be still interesting for some rankings...
