Surprising new informations: Due to the bad weather, the fallen stones and the deviation route, the organization decided to cancel the second stage about nearly 400 kms for the Z1-expert class. "The heavy rain didn´t stop, the tracks became more and more muddy, in some mountain regions the participants even reported about snow and ice on the tracks," organizer Giannis Athanasiou said.
"In addition we had the problem with the fallen stones at kilometer 119 and some of the fastest competitors had problems with the deviation route. The tracking system reported, that even the fastest participants cannot finish the stage in the maximum time - which means, we maybe are not able to start the third stage back to Stefani and Athens in time. Because we want to have fair and secure conditions for all participants we stopped the participants in the stage and they will now come back in the camp."
After all Z1-experts competitors will be back in the camp they have 90 minutes for checking the cars, refueling and repairing. Then the third stage about 249 kms (competing) and 50 kms (liaison) will be started according to the schedule. "The third stage is more secure because of the coming daylight and rising temperatures," Athanasiou said. "We will count the results of the first stage, so everybody from now has the same chance again."
The Z2-3 amateurs class will finish the second stage as planned, they had to drive nearly 90 kms less than the expert-class.
