|Greece 24 Hours TICKER: They wanted to win, but sometimes days are...|
After the "Hellas Rally" in April 2013, the Greek Mitsubishi Pajero V20 T1 crew of Stavros Dimitriadis and Panagiotis Kalfas still had an "open invoice" with the Israelian crew of Raz Heyman and Hillel Segal (Mitsubishi Pointer). Both teams were fighting minute-by-minute for the win in the race - and even if the Mitsubishi rallycar was totally new at this time, the Greek crew was leading the race with a big gap in front of the "Dakar"- and "Silk Way"-experts from Israel.
But in the last stage, the greeks maybe lost the nerves, they hit a stone only some kilometers in front of the final finish and had to let the Israelians go for the win. "We will be back and then we will fight again" Heyman and Segal promised. And they did.
Today (we reported), the Israel crew rolled the car - and the Greek Mitsubishi guys helped them, because they wanted a fair fight. But the "Greek Gods" didn´t honour this...
Even at 00:28 CET (01:28 local time), Stavros Dimitriadis and his crew are working on their Mitsubishi and driving one test round after the next. "We could fix the first problems," Stavros said. "But we also damaged the brakes in the first stage and try to fix them. Cross your fingers - 50/50 we can restart in the third stage. Ok, we will not win anymore, but we want to finish the race!" Real sportsmen!
What´s happening actually in the night stage?
Well, the bikers are sleeping, so do some participants of the amateur-class, which were too tired to restart in the night-stage.
But in the front we can see real fights following the live-tracking. Definetely leading are the Bulgarians Desislav Slavchev and Margarita Staynova with their Mercedes G500 V8 prototype, followed by the two Israelian crews Heyman / Segal (Mitsubishi Pointer) and Yehoshua "Shay" Shimoni / Michael "Miki" Yochay in their Mitsubishi L200 Strakar, which looks like the former FIA World Cup car of Miroslav Zapletal and Mila Janacek from the Czech Republic.
But wait, the Mitsubishi sounds like a "big block"...and also something is different with the chassis... ok, we will tell you the "secret": The car only looks like a Mitsubishi - inofficially it´s a prototype fitted with an Chevrolet engine...
Race is over for the Italians Salvatore / Schiumarini
Actually the race is over for the Italian Mitsubishi Pajero V60 crew Massimo Salvatore and Andrea Schiumarini. They hit a tree in the second stage, the car is still in the stage but the crew got a lift the camp and they are not injured.
