For the second consecutive time, the Saudi driver, Yazeed Al-Rajhi, and his French co-driver, Matthieu Baumel, of the JMB Stradale Off Road team claim victory on the Saudi Arabian Ha'il Baja. After 187,7 km of timed stage, the duo brought in the best time of the day with a 27m 03s advance.
At the wheel of his Stradale Off Road Lancer, Yazeed and Matthieu did not leave room for error and triumphed during the 3 day race in the An-Nafud desert, north of the central region, with a 32m 54 s advance over their principal rival, Abdullah Bakhashab.
"The car was fantastic, Matthieu did a great job on the route and I am so happy to have made a winning start to my programme in the Baja Cup," said Yazeed Al-Rajhi. "Winning at home in Saudi Arabia makes it extra special for me" he told after the race.
Matthieu Baumel also confirmed his hat-trick of Saudi Ha’il Baja successes, after guiding Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah to victory in 2008 with the BMW X-raid team and Al-Rajhi with an Overdrive Nissan Pickup last year. The French co-driver, who joined the JMB Team since the Dakar, is maintaining his good results with this 1st place in the Ha'il Baja and his 6th place in the general ranking of the 2010 Dakar, coming in also 1st in the petrol category.
This victory places Yazeed Al-Rajhi in the leading position of the 2010 FIA International Baja Cross Country Cup with 15 points. While waiting to decide if they will participate in the next FIA Baja, which will be held in two weeks in St. Petersbourg, Russia, they will savor their victory.
