Headline: Italian Baja 2008 with the most Participants ever

This Thursday the long weekend of the Italian Baja 2008 - which will end Sunday with the finishing line in "Piazza della Vittoria"- started with the administrative ckecks. In the afternoon at the Dream Village in Viale del Benessere (now three years the base of the race) the first of the competitors will start to arrive and will have to go through administrative checks (from 3pm to 7pm) and scrutineering (from 3.30pm to 7.30pm). This will continue tomorrow morning (8 - 13.00 and 8.30 - 13.30 respectively).

Broken at the last moment the record of entries. With the last subscriptions received by the secretariat of the race, the 2008 edition has established a new record of participants: 183. All divided into: 64 cars for the International Cup For Cross Country Bajas; 12 cars for the Suzuki Challenge; 34 cars for the Gran Criterium of the Federazione Italiana Fuoristrada, 25 motorbikes and 48 quads for the Italian and the European Bajas Championship. Surpassing therefore the last record reached in 2003 of 181 participants when the Italian Baja was still valid for the Rallies Tout Terrain World Cup.

The bad weather in the last few days had created a little worry for the outcome of the race, with snow on Mount Jouf and the rising of the water level of the Cosa river that flows into the Tagliamento. But the return of the sun has solved all the problems and the last inspection of the route indicates that all is ready for the competitors of the cross country. Friday there is the prologue of "Barbeano" length10 km, which will give the rank and starting order for the first stage. Saturday and Sunday the cars will have to face the Selective Section "Tagliamento", (length 63.31 km) five times and that of "Monte Jouf" (length 20.15 km) four times. For motorbikes and quads three on the "Tagliamento" and four on "Monte Jouf". It is worth noting that whilst the cars race on the Tagliamento, motorbikes and quads will be racing on Monte Jouf and viceversa. At the end of each lap, the fuoristrada will stop at the service park in the industrial zone of Maniago (Nip).

Uncertain predictions for all levels. For the cars there is the unknown factor of the Spanish Marc Roura Blazquez that no longer has his agile Pick-up but a powerful Fornasari. Angelo Montico, known as the "home hero" has the same car and an advantage over other competitors: nobody better than he knows how to run on the Tagliamento. For motorbikes Matteo Graziani (Ktm) is considered a favourite, but this is only a way to deter the attention from the rest of the group. For the quads it is easy to indicate Radoslaw Sawicz (Yamaha Yfz 450), the Polish European Champion, but the other participants have not just come along to watch him.
