Headline: Jan de Rooy stops with Rally Raid Motorsport

Dutch Dakar-Winner and Truck-Legend Jan de Rooy will stop his Motorsport-Engagement. Especially the recession which lead to a lot of stagnancy in the transport sector, plays an important role to avoid the big rallies in Argentina (Dakar Rally) and Africa (Africa Race) the coming year. "My decision to stop definite came earlier than I initially thought. I would have loved to go back to Africa", tells Jan de Rooy, "but I think I can't make it for my personnel and our customers to spend a lot of money on my hobby while in our company we are implementing cuts in order to keep things going. Every department has to contribute to the saving by watching the costs. This goes also for the Dakar-Team. No Africa Race means for me the end of a great rally period which era I closed this year with a first place in the same rally. I'm not getting any younger and I don't fancy an assistance task in 2011, so I cut the knot: I'm stopping now".

Son Gerard de Rooy joins his fathers decision for 2010; although his participation in the Dakar 2010 was not definite after he got serious injured in the back during the Silk Way Rally after an unlucky jump. "My father and I were invited by the organisation to compete in this rally. The invitation was just what we needed as we wanted to test the new rally trucks. During the last 10 kilometres in a special that didn't even count for the rankings, I made an unnoticed jump, while sitting wrong in my chair. I made heavier jumps in the preceding days but now I felt immediately that it was wrong. In close consultation with our team doctor Ab van Erp, who is orthopaedic surgeon at the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven, we decided for an operation. Quite a heavy one, but it's your back so you don't want to take any risk. The rehabilitation will take about 6 months so participating in 2010 would in fact be irresponsible, certainly if you want to go for the first place. For me this means that I have to wait until 2011".
