Heroes Legend: With Stéphane Peterhansel from Paris to Dakar.

The next "Heroes Legend" looks promising. With Stéphane Peterhansel for leader the organizers have fined tuned this fourth event to seduce rally-raid enthusiasts, whether novices or more experienced, on motorbikes, 4x4s, SUVs or quads. The only race from Paris to Dakar this year, the rally’s team placing is based on regularity and not speed, around conviviality and the discovering the fabulous continent Africa.

With 70 competitors already registered, the fourth "Heroes Legend" race from October 24th to November 7th 2009 will allow many amateurs to be part of a sporting event not involving speed. A 4500 kilometers tour of discovery of Africa which begins by crossing Morocco, then Mauritania and Senegal ending with a mythical finish along the Lac Rose near Dakar.

To allow more competitors to realize their dream of taking part in a rally between Paris and Dakar, the "Heroes Legend" organizing committee has broadened the rules by opting for a course with two levels of difficulties as well as optional areas, allowing beginners to bypass major difficulties. The rally is also opened to a wider range of vehicles: Modern 4x4s (Open class) or manufactured before 1990 (Classic class), motorbikes and modern quads (Open class) or manufactured before 1996 (Classic class).

Also, for those who enjoy a drive, the "bivouac-bivouac" class will follow the assistance route, on 98% roads or easy tracks, another way of discovering Africa at one’s leisure. The vehicles taking part in the "Heroes Legend" do not require any special preparation apart from their own GPS and an E-track (supplied by the organizers). Whatever the chosen formula, the "Heroes Legend" is the cheapest French organized rally relative to its length and distance.

Africa’s magic, with its sceneries, colors and inhabitants, plays a big part in a rally such as the "Heroes Legend" since the average of 500 kilometers a day allow the competitors plenty of time to take in its beauty. The reconnaissance team has discovered new places: dunes, rolling plateaus, oueds, palm groves, sandy and mountainous tracks where pleasure and diversity blend together.

After Morocco, crossing the Rekham plateau towards the Erg Chebbi dunes along the Algerian border, the competitors will discover the secret of the Tinfou dune along ancient tracks linking Zagora to Timbuctu. Heading further north they will also cross the Zagora palm grove before reaching Ouarzazate. Then west towards the ocean, Tan Tan and its famous "White Beach" heading south across Laayoune’s small dunes and a new track to Dakhla.

Crossing the western part of Mauritania and its huge dunes will play an important part in the placing. After Nouhadibou the competitors will follow another new original track to the Benichaab source to reach the bivouac at Akjoujt. After the Terjit oasis and through the famous Tifoujar pass they will follow a classic track of the Paris Dakar rally towards Aleg. Following Idini and then Rosso the competitors will cross the Senegal River on the Diama dam before reaching the green oasis of Saint Louis of Senegal for a deserved rest prior to the finish by the Lac Rose near Dakar.

All the ingredients are there to enjoy an unforgettable adventure, with a course away from the tourist trails, bivouacs outside inhabited areas and a friendly atmosphere of discovery. For more informations visit the official website [ ]
