Himalaya Classic: ROARR launches 2nd Classic Marathonrally

Entries are now open for the 2nd Himalaya Classic Rally (March 9 to April 9 2007) following the successful running of the first Himalaya Classic Rally which finished in Calcutta on April 10 2006.

The Himalaya Classic Rally is a 5,000km, month long tour de force through some of the most outstanding scenery in the world, following the roads trodden by travellers over thousands of years. Highlights of the 2007 rally will be royal Rajasthan, the home of Maharajas, Amritsar and the fabled Golden Temple, many of the most famous hill stations from the days of the Raj and an exclusive visit to the secretive kingdom of Bhutan.

Starting in Udaipur, the 2nd Himalaya Classic Rally roars into life on March 9 2007, and will be flagged off by His Highness Arvind Singh Mewar, the Maharana of Udaipur. With a limit of just 20 vehicles early registration is recommended.

The rally promises a fantastic journey, taking in the many different cultures of India as well as the incredible scenery. Although a long distance event, the days are carefully structured to allow time to take in the sights which include a visit to a Tiger reserve where this rare beast can be tracked on elephant back. However, the highlight of the 2007 event is a unique drive through the state of Bhutan in eastern India. Special dispensation is being negotiated to allow the rally to drive through this beautiful state.

Commenting on the event, organiser Conrad Birch, said, "This is one of the truly great undiscovered journeys proving a rich mixture of cultures, colour, history and adventure. It’s a privilege to drive these roads, meet the people and take in the ancient scenery which provides a magnificent backdrop to the rally."
