The VIII. "Hungarian Baja", round of the "FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies", was started on Friday with the Superspecial (prologue) section near to Rábaring and a big Start Ceremony in front of the City Hall. There are 25 racers in the motor/quad category and 27 other people are in the car/ truck category.
The whole competition is situated in Gyor and its surrounding. There were a lot of people at the Ceremony, they were curious for the bests of the world, who were talking about their plans standing on the podium.
Of course, loud applause greeted the leading competitors Leonid Novitskiy (X-raid BMW, Russia), Boris Gadasin (G-Force Proto, Russia), Miroslav Zapletal (X-raid BMW, Czech Republic), Beier/Beier (Mercedes Proto, Germany) and the Hungarians, Balázs Szalay (Opel Antara) and Károly Fazekas (BMW X5 Proto).
Before the fireworks we could enjoy a breathtaking production of fire dancers. At the end of the show the cars went back to the Parc Fermé, as they knew a long journey waits for them on Saturday.
The 5,5-kilometer Super Special (prologue) was really successful for X-raid´s Leonid Novitskiy from Russia and his German Codriver Andreas Schulz. They mentioned the first round as a nice practicing. The next pilot ont he second place was Miroslav Zapletal (X-raid BMW X3CC).
Boris Gadasin from Russia (G-Force Proto) didn't do his best, as he was only the third one. He was annoyed by the dust. Balázs Szalay (Opel Antara RR) was not able to outrun his teammate Porizek (Hummer H3 Proto), who was trying the new settings of his car during the whole SS.
Although the Hungarian Erik Korda (Nissan) and his team didn' t choose the right tires thye became the best ones among the hungarians with their time 4:49. Unfortunately, Grigoletto Franco (start number 16) got a technical error, so he couldn't finish the round.
In motor/quad category Mendes André was the best, but among the hungarians Hangodi and Fekete had the same time.
