According to the temperature you could say that we are in Egypt, but no, it’s just the Hungarian weather nowadays in August. Here we are, at the fifth stop of "Hungarian Baja". Saturday will be the hottest and the longest: The hottest day of the weekend, and the longest selective part for the drivers.
Friday there was the prologue, which is a short part, but it counts too. There are sixteen people in the motor category, and 23 quads with 5 Hungarian members. We also have to mention the cars, twenty-two: Schlesser, Al Mutaiwei, Gadasin, Károly Fazekas, Erik Korda, Pál Lónyai…
With the superspecial in the Gyönyu Industrial Park and ETO Park hosting the opening ceremony the 2012 Hungarian Baja FIA Wolrd Cup race has began. In the class of cars, Silk Way Rally's champion, the Russian Boris Gadasin finished first, the best motor rider was the 2010 champ, the French David Casteu, while the Hungarian, Mátyás Somfai had the most efficient quad ride.
Before the prologue, the competitors were lucky enough to meet Hungarian Olympians: two Judo medalists, Éva Csernoviczki and Miklós Ungvári, an only 19-year-old boxer, scoring points on his first Olympics, Zoltán Harcsa, dechatlon contender, Attila Szabó, two beautiful mermaids, surfer Diána Detre and diver Flóra Gondos, and Hungary's lone Moto GP European Champion, Alen Gyorfi.
“I was really happy that the Olympians visited my team, because not long ago the whole country supported them in front of the television screen. It was a huge honor to meet with my favorite sportsmen, Miklós Ungvári and have a little warming up with him. That practice went so well, me and my Toyota finished fifth” - told Erik Korda.
The contenders of London have a long chat with Eszter Gyulai, Hungary's only female Boeing pilot, who now navigates Lónyai Pál's Nissan on the ground. “Meeting the Olympians made my day! We talked about funny flight experiences with Milkós Ungvári, while others were wondering how could a women fly a giant plane like a Boeing” - said Eszter Gyulai.
In the line-up of quads, the yet top performer Mátyás Somfai – by the way, Eszter's boyfriend – and Richárd Hodola were delighted to have a quick conversation with fellow racer, Alen Gyorfi, the boxer Zoltán Harcsa and the dechatlon contender Attila Szabó.
