"If August - then Hungarian Baja" - this slogen is not only familiar for the Hungarians, since the "Hungarian Baja", one of the most perstigious motorsport event in Hungary, welcomes the best cross-country competitors each year, in increasing number.
The organiser of the event, Zoltán Garamvölgyi and his team are ready to host 100+ participants and several thousand spectators, Gyor and the Hungarian Baja welcome anybody from 23 - 26 August 2012.
The first Hungarian Baja was organised in 2004 and even in the first year it was elected as the best event of the cross-country championship. The popularity and the success of the event is continuous till then, in 2008 it was organised as an event of FIA Baja World Cup.
At that time real world stars visited our event, for example the winner of the first world cup was Nasser Al-Attiyah, who also got the first place of the biggest motorsport event of the world the Dakar Rallye in 2010.
The Hungarian Baja has reached to a new, important milestone in 2011. On the one hand, the participants were welcomed by the town of Gyor, and on the other hand the event was accepted among the events of the Cross-Country World Cup series founded by FIA.
During the years it became a tradition that the fans of the motorsport say goodbye to Summer with Hungarian Baja, which will be organised on the last weekend of August in 2012 as well.
The event strenghten its position in the international racing calendars, since the participants of the moto-quad field can obtain scores not only in the European Championship, but - similary to the cars - also the field of the Cross-Country World Cup will compete in Hungary.
Subsequent real world star has indicated its participation intent for Hungarian Baja which will be organised between 23 -26 August, on the behalf of the factory team of Yamaha the world champion of 2010 will compete at the Hungarian tracks.
For the French David Casteu, Hungary is not an unknown field, since he has already introduced himself to the Hungarian spectators in 2008 on the Central Europe Rallye which was organised instead of the cancelled Dakar rally, The French moto driver has certainly pleasant memories about Hungary and about the Hungarian tracks, because he celebrated one of the biggest success of his carreer at the finish podium at the shore of Lake Balaton, because he won the Hungarian Dakar.
Beside his first place in "Central Europe Rally", his list of results contains other vitories: for example a second place at Dakar Rallye in 2007, but he can also be proud of the World Cup first position in 2010. The The participation of the 38 years old French star is also gladsome, because he has not participated in the Italian Baja - which was the first event of the 4 event FIM Baja World Cup - he postponed his come out for Hungary.
Among the moto drivers there is an increasing interest for the Hungarian World Cup event, and also a serious participation intent from South Western Europe.
Among the quad drivers, the constant participant of the Dakar Rallies, the Uruguayan Luis Henderson has already sent his start permit in February to the Hungarian Association.
Several months before the start, Henderson has already received his first competitors from Europe, because the Spanish Quadtro Team is planning to participate in this year Hungarian Baja with three quads, among them the current leader of the FIM Baja World Cup series, Oscar Romero.
Beside the Spanish trio there are applicants from Portugal and the moto drivers are also expected by the organisers and moreover it seems that even two returning car competitors will be welcomed at the start ceremony in Gyor on 23 August.
