HunGarian Baja: It's going to be a hard day...

Breaking up with past years’ tradition, a little because of the pressure of the economic crisis , the program of the HunGarian Baja has been changed. The fourth round of the FIA International Cup for Bajas in 2009 will consist of a shorter and a very long and hard day, and this time the military base at Jutaspuszta will be centre for the whole event.

Although it seems to be a short race, rally organizer Zoltán Garamvölgyi doesn’t promise an easy ride for the teams for the specials prepared in the military fields. The full length of the specials will reach the 500 kilometer.

For the fans it will worth coming to the first 48 km special Friday afternoon in Jutaspuszta stage, because nobody will be saving on speed in order to reach a better starting position for long day and, of course, to get the biggest advantage possible.

The day of 22nd August is going to put all members of the teams to a test: not only the racing crews but also the mechanics and everyone else involved. This day will start in the early morning and after eight stages it will finish late at night. The organizers have marked out two tracks. The competitors have to complete both of them four times in order to decide by the evening who is going to win the HunGarian Baja.

However the question is much more interesting, because winner of the 2009 Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Championship will also be decided here. Like last year when László Palik and Gábor Darázsi won the championship in Veszprém. This year there are three crews that still have a chance for the title. Following their 6th place at Prohun 500 in Gyula last month, Zapletal slipped back to the second position, but Balázs Szalay is only with two points in front of him, while reigning champion László Palik in the third position with a 6,5 points gap before the most important race of the season.
