Hungarian Baja 2008 Special-Newssection (FIA Baja Worldcup)

This is the single-news section of the special of the Hungarian Baja 2008, 4th round of the FIA Worldcup for International Bajas. To see all news please use the link under the article or navigate with the left main-navigation.

Hungarian Baja: Orobica Team will start with Dakar Fiat Panda.

The Hungarian Baja 2008 is going to be organized in a bit more than a month, and accordingly, the official race announcement in all categories are available on the official Website [ ], so that both participants and fans can get to know the race, organized in the FIA Baja Worldcup of 2008. The Hungarian Baja will not only be part of the international Baja series, but will also qualify as one of the races in the Hungarian Cross Country Rally Championship

The Orobica Raid team will take part with a Fiat, named PanDakar. What is worth knowing about the car is that the Italian manufacturer launched two such vehicles on the Dakar. Back then, widely known drivers sat behind the wheels: Miki Biasion and Bruno Saby.

Due to the performance and the size of the vehicle, the car was considered to be a curiosity in the PanDakar race, and this statement will be true for this year’s HunGarian Baja as well. We are eager to see what a car - weighing only 1400 kilograms and equipped with a 1,3 liter engine - will be up for on the tracks near Veszprém.

The organisers are glad to hear that the Portuguese champion of 2004, Rui Sousa and his navigator Carlos Silva, will also take part in the Hungarian Baja, what is more, with an Isuzu D-Max 3.0 TD, which is a real curiosity in Hungary. They will fight for the Baja cup in the T2 group.

There are more and more teams confirming officially or half-officially their participation in the HunGarian Baja 2008, which will take place between 21-24 August. What is already certain, that the Rally will have the chance to host in Veszprém one of the stars of the sport. The Russian Boris Gadasin has signed his intention to take part in the race, which is not surprising, as he would like to defend his title, and for the sake of this cause, he needs points from all the races.

It is getting even more important now that Al-Attiya - going with a BMW - has won all the two races, both the Saudi-Arabian race and the Italian Baja. Seeing the current standing of the championship, the Arabian driver will probably also participate in the Hungarian race, though this will also depend on the result of the Spanish race, taking place this weekend.
