HunGarian Baja: Zapletal likes to race in Hungary.

Miroslav Zapletal who is called by everyone Zapi, despite of being a Czech driver, for us he is a little bit Hungarian, too. Not only because he has been driving in so many rallies around the world with the licence of the Hungarian GarZonE team for years collecting the better and better results, but also because he has never kept it in secret that he likes to race with us and he feels himself well in this atmosphere welcoming him here.

We supported him just like our fellow-countrymen at the Dakar this year, and our heart was full with pride when he finished the South-American race at the incredible SEVENTH position.

– Anyway, it had been a long way from the very beginning till we got to our first Dakar – remembered the Czech driver. – I had been attending school when I started to ride a motorbike, then after the pressure of a friend I tried how it feels to compete with a land rover. More exactly, to do off-road racing, because the cross-country rallying came later. I will never forget my first car which was a Mercedes G.

– We made a very good decision some years ago when we said we must start in the Hungarian Championship – Zapi continued. – Hungary is not so far from the Czech Republic, but not this has been the main criteria. There are very good pilots and very good cars competing in the Hungarian Championship with each other, so we have found the proper motivation as well. Nevertheless the tracks are excellent in most cases, and the HunGarian Baja is up to the standard of the most prestigeous international races.

– We have always been on the podium in the past three years, and we managed to win the race in 2007 – touched on the HunGarian Baja the Czech driver. – The victory had been also a great result, but I consider our third position last year at least as big success as that was. In that race we could finish behind Al-Attiyah and Novitskiy, namely behind two factory BMWs. I am really looking forward to the race in this year! Like Palik or Szalay, I would also like to win the Hungarian Championship title. I am sure there will be a huge fight between us. We all know the kind of the tracks, we know for what we should prepare. It will turn out after sweaty and hard day who is going to be the champion in 2009.
