The "Hungarian Baja" 2011 started on Saturday (August 27th) after 8:00 CET in the morning. The motor /quad category started earlier as they had to go further, to the selective of Kapuvár. The round of the "FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies" started at the Hallómajor-Rábaring court, which is a 48-kilometer long part.
It's not a suprising maybe, but it is interesting neither both Russians and favorites Leonid Novitskiy (X-raid BMW X3CC) nor Boris Gadasin (G-Force Proto) did the best time.
It was the former World Champion Miroslav Zapletal and his navigator Tomas Ourednicek from Czech Republic, who were able to outrun everybody and won the first round with their private X-raid BMW X3CC. Six seconds later Gadasin arrived to the finish, and then Novitskiy. He got more than one minute from Zapletal.
Among the hungarians, the performance of Károly Fazekas (BMW X5 Proto) was the best, they ended at the absolute fourth position. He aheaded Balázs Szalay (Opel Antara RR) with 12 seconds. Hodola got the second place at the motor category. Fekete was the most up to date, he ran a better time than Hangodi.
Interview after the first part on Saturday, August 27th
Miroslav Zapletal (X-raid BMW): "We are happy to be here again, and we are also happy because of the first place in this round. Unfortunately, we are a little bit nervous, as we heard some weird noise from the car. We should change our switch, but it would count 2 hours. We hope it won't break down until today's evening."
Boris Gadasin (G-Force Proto): "We ended this part without any problems. It's a hard race, as we can't see everything clearly because of the bushes. The court is quiet narrow. We are looking forward to the next rounds."
Leonid Novitskiy (X-raid BMW): "It was really hard to be the first, as we "cleaned" the court. Moreover we didn't choose the right tires, so it was not good on grass. We were not enough successful in these rounds."
Károly Fazekas (BMW X5): "This round was really hard, as the court was narrow and there are a lot of pits. According to our performance our rank is reasonable."
Balázs Szalay (Opel Antara RR): "There was everything during this round. We really need to pay attention, as it was very hard. We caught Costel who was in front of us, buta s there was dustcloud we couldn't outrun him. In addition I am allergic to some plants so I have a running nose."
Costel Casuneanu (Mitsubishi Evo MPR13): "I was not good at this round, it is not easy to see the turns. We have to be very careful! I hope everything will be better in the next round."
