In 2009 less than two points separated the Hungarian Balázs Szalay and his dream of winning the Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Championship. This year Szalay, with the backing of Monster Energy, led the Opel Antara RR Team to the overall Hungarian title - achieving his longtime with four race wins and two additional podium finishes. "The car worked perfectly on every race and our service team performed outstandingly throughout the whole season" said Szalay.
Opening the season in Russia’s Northern Forest, Szalay shook down the Opel Antara RR and came away from the ice-covered course with a newfound appreciation for driving. "There I felt that I learned to drive," he said. "I had gained such driving experience there that I have never practiced before. Driving on ice gives a kind of knowledge that can cashed for winning on other races. This is how I felt after the races after St. Petersburg."
A fourth position at the Italian Baja would set the stage for Hungary’s championship, beginning in April of 2010. "The team made great development, besides the first Opel Antara RR they constructed three other cars and there is an additional car, the Zoltán Apáthy and Zoltán Morvai unit’s Pickup, that is also maintained by the team" explained Szalay of the sizable Monster-Opel presence at the Hungarian events. "Hence the team represented with four but mostly with five cars on the championship events."
