Hungarian Championship: VW Touareg Proto wins

Balázs Szalay gained his second silver in a row at the "Hungarian National Field Rally Championship" at June 11th. - with Dénes Tóth co-piloting this time - strengthening his 3rd position in the overall score competition.

In this run even reaching the finish was a miracle, not to mention that in a position to gain points as well. Heavy rains in the past few weeks soaked up the tracks, making some of them real seas of mud. What was half of the field's ruin, however, was nothing to the green Opel Frontera. Car and pilot were fighting their way through the 'inviting' swamps in such a manner that not even the engine got hot, unlike the engines of the other competitors.

"The Opel handled the drill amazingly, proving itself to be one of the most 'mature' race cars there- said Balázs Szalay. - Although we left two of its springs at a Hánta rock, still, it only meant a disadvantage of having to drive more careful. On the whole I enjoyed competition very much."

The Balázs Szalay - Dénes Tóth duo still remained at 2nd position, after adding up stage results and checking GPS-es, as well - with the difference, though, that first they were behind István Gál, then Zoltán Rigler. The reason: after the GPS check almost all ace-pilots - except for Rigler - received penalties (30 minutes for the Szalay-Tóth duo), therefore ranking changed. The Opel, though, still kept its second position.
