Hungarian Teams at muddy cross-country rally in Kanizsa.

Weather wasn´t quite favorable for the entrants of the domestic field rally championship´s 2nd run; tracks were turned into real seas of mud due to heavy rainfalls on the previous days. This, perhaps, had made it more challenging for competitors to complete the stages. Unfortunately the Balázs Szalay/Dénes Tóth Opel Antara Teams weren´t left out either; at least five times they got pulled out of the mud. At times the winder seemed useless, too, therefore contestants had to rely on a tractor.

"The majority of the field used cross tyres, however we did not have any, and started out with a bit of disadvantage. We were extremely enthusiastic during the race, except for those times when we got trapped in some pits" said Balázs Szalay. "We have received no official information on the ranks yet (they are planning on cancelling two stages due to the regular blockage), although one thing is sure for now; at present i´m 5th in competiton."

The former rallycross racer László Tamás entered in the colors of the team with the Opel Frontera. Róbert Tagai was his co-driver, who has some Dakar experience, as well. Unfortunately Tamás wasn´t so lucky on his first field rally championship. He was 9th on the first stage, while by the second stage he got stuck in first gear and the duo had to give up.

A day before the whole field took part in a compulsory drive-around of a connection stage, which lead them along the streets of Nagykanizsa. At the end they drove into a detached yard by the main square of the city, where hundreds of people were cheering and waving. It was typical of the fans in Kanizsa that, despite the awful and depressive weather, many were out by the tracks on Saturday to applaud the competitors. It proves that it´s a place where field rally is highly welcome.
