 | Italian Baja: Entries open now, Countdown has started in Italy.
|
The countdown for the 2010 Italian Baja (programmed from 18th to 21st march) has already begun in the 4x4 Offroad Club in Pordenone. After a quiet and serene new year’s day, they started working again with enthusiasm for the 17th edition of this race, full of new ideas and projects.
The competition, open to cars, motorcycles, quads and trucks, is not only a challenge against the time, but also an adventure with the special background of Friuli plains surrounded by the mountains. As last year, Italian Baja’s headquarter will be at Pordenone Fair (Viale Treviso), but this year start and arrival point will be in Spilimbergo (Piazza Garibaldi). It’s an ideal head basis for reaching Tagliamento.
This river, from Dignano to Ponte della Delizia, will form the race track and will be top secret as much as possible, until the last briefing before the start. The mosaic town immediately accepted the proposal of the organizer committee: for three days Spilimbergo is going to be a reference point of the great international race circus, with the opportunity to organize events and displays.
Competitors are expected from all over Europe and Asia, as 2010 calendar of FIA International Cup for Cross-Country Bajas is opening in Saudi Arabia (Hail Baja) on February 16th, next in Russia (Northern Forest) on February 25th, and then Italian Baja on March 18th. Following races: Spain (July 23rd), Hungary (August 25th) and Portugal (October 28th).
The regulation news recently approved provide traces with selective sectors on a more sliding ground and also more regular, a rally-style type, in order to reduce mechanic subsidings and permit SUV vehicles to participate. This means that the number of entries could sensibly increase, adding spectacle and suspense to a competition in which motorcycles and quads will anyhow have equal dignity in a Baja formula, assembling agonism and amusement with a wonderful background.
