Italian Baja: Less stones, more Rally at Italian Baja next week

Two weeks to go before the start of the Italian Baja 2007 (15th /18th March). The countdown makes the whole Mauro Tavella’s Team vibrate. Time seems to go by real fast at Furistrada Club 4x4. The are already 37 competitors and we are receiving the first registrations from quads. "It’s the same every year - says the race’s Patron - : the organization starts way ahead of the race, many months before. As the event gets closer, you realize there are still many things to do and work becomes frenetic. Never mind, we have a very strong passion for this race and we always find a perfect solution for any problem that may incur. As always, everything will work out just perfectly".

The main change in the 2007 edition regards the track. We have "designed a track " that avoids environmentally vulnerable areas. There will be less "stones" on the river bed Tagliamento and more rally driving on the Aviano track. A total of 421 Km of Selective Sections which include the 6 Km prologue in Castel d’Aviano on Friday 16th .

There will be three Italian Champions at the start line: Roberto Ciampolini (2003,2004,2006), Lorenzo Codecà (2005) and Andrea Toro (1999). There would also be a 4th Champion but - at the moment- he prefers to have fun racing with quads. Don’t forget to keep your eyes on Andrea Luchini, Riccardo Colombo, Pierpaolo Larini and many others including the ex rally driver Antonio Manfrinato.
FOREIGNERS We still haven’t received registrations from last year’s Champion Marc Roura Blazquez from Spain nor from SHK Hamad Bin Eid Al-Thani from Qatar a character that stood out in last year’s edition. We are expecting Fia’s principal driver Francesco Tremens Rodriguez who could overturn the whole group. Look out for Shimoni Yehoshua from Israel and on Josef Sykora from Slovakia!!!

After ten years of absence from the races Walter Ussai is back on the scene with the Azzano rally team. The driver from Sacile is ready to get in Ulisse Scarpis’ Toyota Rav 4 to show us all how what an amazing driver he is with 4x4 vehicles. If Rovegno moved on to quads and left behind jeeps, Angelo Montico wants to show us how it works the other way round even though this centaur is still keeping secret the vehicle he will be driving.

Last year the Dream Village in Cordenons turned out to be a great place to welcome International kermesse. For this reason the Italian Baja’s headquarters (press room, Rally headquarters, time keepers’ centre, Stewards’ meetings ) will, again, be in this great and multifunctional structure in Via del Benessere. The assistance for cars and quads will be in Basaldella (Vivaro).
