 | Italian Baja: The "Great Return" of T4 Racetrucks in FIA World Cup Opener.

The FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallys enriches the competition’s offer with the trucks’ registrations - and the [ ITALIANBAJA.COM ] will be the opener. Italian "Racetruck-Guru" and Dakar’s most representative driver, Giacomo Vismara, promises: "Trucks will guarantee an incredible show."
The Italian driver from Bergamo already took part to the Dakar race 25 times, including a transfer to South America, where he tested the new sceneries of the historical challenge.
"The modern ones, thanks to the four-wheel drive system, are almost as competitive as cars. I tested the track, which is quite funny, as it is very fast. I believe their participation is a good idea; modern trucks dispose of four-wheel drive system and are very fast."
"I hope, Italian Baja’s organization can get many trucks’ registrations, helping the dazzling competition’s offer to reach a high international level. It is time to let the World Cup for Cross Country Rallys be qualified in Italy as a high quality competition."
This will be the second great new of the 2012 edition (from 15th to 18 th March), after the first confirmation of the Pordenone race in the World Cup also for bikes and quads participation. All Cross Country lovers are looking forward to watching at the modern Kamaz, Tatra, Iveco, etc., that’s to say all trucks able to drive really fast and even able to challenge cars.
Vismara tells: "Trucks always took part to the Dakar, since the first edition in 1979. We needed them for the assistance, this is why they had to face the whole track; afterwards we decided to let them also compete. When in 1986 I won with my Unimog Mercedes, together with Giulio Minelli, there were 73 T4 participants and I was giving assistance to the Honda bikes."
Trucks took part to the Italian Baja only in 2000 (victory of Kamaz/Chagin), 2002 (Walcher/Mayer, SCAM) and 2003 (Szalay/Darazsi/Lener, MAN M2000), when the race was valid for the FIA World Cup.
The "Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone" proudly regained this prestigious title last year and of course wishes to be equalized now by its "brothers & sisters" like the "Hungarian Baja" or "Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge".
