 | Italian Baja TICKER: Van Merksteijn takes the lead, Boris Gadasin retired.

 | | | After the "hot" Friday the weather on the first big racing day went a little cooler, but the speed of the cars faster... The first results show that in this year we eventually can count with a few surprises in Italy.
The Dutchman Peter van Merksteijn takes the overall lead after the two stages of Saturday with 01:59:13 hours with his all-new Overdrive Toyota Hilux, followed by the Russian "White Hills Baja"-winner Vladimir Vasilyev in the fastest G-Force Proto (+1:02 minutes), WRC-specialist Tony Gardemeister from Finland in his rented RE Auto Club Mitsubishi Pajero prototype (+1:52) and Miroslav Zapletal/Mila Janacek in their X-raid BMW X3CC (+2:34).
Last year's winner Boris Gadasin (Russia, G-Force Proto) did not get far: A few kilometers after the start he touched the hard stony ground very hard, broke his car and had to retire. Tonight the crew will try to fix the car to start again on Sunday. Detailed news will follow.
