 | Italian Baja: X-raid to start? Three Mercedes evolution cars from Germany.

One month before the start, the number of entries of the "FIA World Cup Opener" Italian Baja (March 17th-20th) is growing. Just like every year, at this point the organizer staff is at the top of fibrillation: Each element has its own job, coordination is necessary, in each phase of advance in the project, just like in the building of an architectural construction.
A FIA official communication announced: The first installation meeting of the working group dedicated to rule about cross country rallies will be held in Pordenone Fair during the race. Therefore the presence of group leader Fred Gallagher is foreseen, supported by Peter Faluvegi (Hungary), Jackes Besoli (Andorra), Michel Perin (BMW), Lionel Carré (FIA) and Mauro Tavella himself, general manager of Italian Baja.
An official BMW crew will eventually be seen at the start of the race, that will open the new FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies 2011. "It has been guaranteed in Paris by Team-Director Sven Quandt - when Nasser Khalifa Al-Attiyah (uncle of Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah) was installed as President of the Cross Country Rally Commission" the press-office of the rally told.
From Germany there will be three Mercedes Rallyraid prototype cars. First, the "SAM 35CC" will start again with Dakar-winner (2-Wheel-Drive class) Matthias Kahle und Thomas Schuenemann. Second and third Mercedes will be two "Lennson CC" prototypes, like the SAM based on a tubular frame chassis but with the tougher look of a Mercedes G-Wagen pickup.
The Lennson will be driven by the German Rallyraid Championship (GORM) winner Frank/Stephan Stensky and the GORM-participants Ingo/Silke Kaldarasch. For both Teams and also the car the Rally will be the first FIA-event ever.
During the long weekend characterized by the off-roads challenge, the Fair head quarter will lodge some special events spectacular and amuseful, in order to intensify Italian Baja atmosphere. First of all, drifting, with opposite lock drift of super wheeled vehicles and four exceptional drivers: Graziano Rossi, Valentino's legendary dad, the acrobatic rally driver Andrea Zanussi, "Captain Ventosa" and Jimmy Ghione, highlight characters of the popular Italian TV show "Striscia la notizia".
