|Libya Rally: Second registration phase opened - first trucks signed in.|
On 30th September 2013 the deadline for registrations to the "Libya Rally" 2014 at the cheapest rate (2300 € for a biker, 4800 € for a car, buggy or SSV including 2 people and 5100 € for a race truck) expired. Signing up from now costs you on average 200 € more per person and this until 31st December. But there is another chance to save money: From 1st January 2014 another 200 € will be added.
As a result of the success of the previous editions, the new -already legendary- tracks for 2014 and the well-attended national presentations of the past days/weeks (with 100 visitors in Flanders, 40 in Wallonia, 125 in Holland) the registrations are coming in quickly.
Next to bikes, cars, quads and SSV, also the first 3 race-trucks have registered and the organizers proud to announce that there will be an official truck ranking in 2014. "We’ll do some efforts to increase the number so we can create a beautiful competition for those desert monsters" rally-boss Gert Duson said.
The first 2 registrations in this category are Belgian. The name “Red Devis” is already used in another sport (Belgian national football team), so these 6 friends from West-Flanders with their 4x4 and 6x6 T4 race trucks simply call themselves “RR Belgica”.
Wouter Leenknegt, their team manager explains: “We’ve been doing rally’s for the last 6 years and in 2010 we bought our T4 race truck from the “MAN with a mission” Dakar team. I drove the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and two other rallies with this beast," he said.
"Unfortunately the last rally I did was to much focussed on motorbikers, rather than cars & trucks (I drove the only participating truck). When Gert briefed us on the new itinerary of Libya Rally 2014 and told me we weren’t going to be the only trucks in the competition, our team quicky decided to sign up.”
The second trace truck of team RR Belgica is a MAN 6x6, with Steve Ingels as the new owner/driver. The truck was formerly owned and build by the German X-Raid team and was used as one of their fast assistance trucks. Both Wouter as well as Steve dream about participating in the Dakar rally one day, but seen the huge budgets needed, it will be a long-term plan. “Racing should be fun and a hobby shouldn’t kill you financially”.
The third truck did join the Dakar earlier this year. Hamer Dakar Team, led by Fons Jans, will be participating with their DAF CF T4 rally truck.
