|NORRA Mexican 1000: El Martillo Racing 7th overall in the Mexican desert rally|
The "NORRA Mexican 1000" rally was successful and crowded as the "El Martillo Racing" team arrived at the finish line at the tip of the peninsula in the Southern state of Baja on May 14th. As the race was getting closer to San Jose del Cabo, the support for El Martillo Racing was growing noticeably, by the 4th and last day of the competition, the crowd on the dirt roads and the finish line were waiting for the El Martillo Racing’s Dodge Durango, the team really appreciates the fan support it receives in Mexico.
At the 4th stage, Matthew Campbell the team’s principal drove the whole stage from the Capital city of the State, La Paz, to San Jose del Cabo, at the municipality of world famous tourism/fishing spot of Los Cabos. Just beginning the 1st special section of the day, around mile 4, a pronounced hill blocked Matt’s vision to avoid a rock/concrete small bridge which was hit by the front right tire, bending the rim and wrapping it around the brake caliper and disc.
Navigator Nico Ambriz and team’s media man Luis Medina, 3rd seat passenger guest fought for about 10 minutes taking the tire off and replacing it. During that time 7 cars went ahead of El Martillo, nevertheless the Durango driven by Matthew Campbell got back 5 positions before reaching the checkered flag at San Jose.
At a fabulous but delayed awards party, El Martillo Racing found itself getting the 3rd place in the Unlimited Class and 7th place overall among the 147 starters in this the 5th anniversary of the NORRA 1000. The team is amazed by the response of the fans, especially in Baja Sur and more than happy for a good result in the 1st race of the Durango by the Baja peninsula dirt roads.
El Martillo also congratulates Canadian racer David Bensadoun, winner of Rally Raid Class who performed a wonderful race driving his Overdrive Toyota Hilux for the 1st time in a competition. Also congrats to our friends team Clark Racing for their 2nd great place at the Open Buggy 4.5L Class.
The team performed perfectly with Matt Campbell and Luis Ramirez Jr. driving the car, Nicolas Ambriz team manager, prep and navigator and the rest of the crew, Luis Ramirez Sr., Juan Luna, Angel Rodriguez, Ron Klarenbach, Vince Campbell and Luis Medina. Also with lots of help from Balmaceda Escuderia: Don Tito Herrera, Eduardo Cosio, Clemente Aviles, Daniel Ceseña and Julio Huerta. Also special thanks to Juan Carlos Osuna for giving El Martillo his time in La Paz helping out.
