Northern Forest: Preparations to Baja Russia 2010 get underway.

The organisers of the Saint Petersburg - Northern Forest Baja didn’t let the numerous rally-raid participants and fans down: Even despite the unstable financial situation in the world, an application was sent to the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) to approve running of the 2010 edition of [ ].

Just like it was last season, the competition will be included in the FIA International Cup for Cross-Country Bajas as one of this prestigious series’ rounds. But in 2010 the event will be renamed to "Baja Russia - Northern Forest": Being an event in an international FIA series, the race represents the whole country at the world’s level, thus bringing forth the name of Russia. But of course the historical name "Northern Forest" will still utter in the Baja’s title. The upcoming race will have the highest possible status among all Russian motorsport competitions.

The "Northern Forest" Baja will be held at the end of February-beginning of March in the Leningrad region (the land around Saint Petersburg). The FIA highly praised the level of organisation of the race in 2009 and its unique character: this is the world’s only Baja, held on snow and ice surface. Top drivers who are used to competing in sands and on gravel tracks, get a golden (or should we say silver in regards to the frost) opportunity to prove themselves in unfamiliar conditions.

The Russian crews who take part in the national championship, get in exchange a chance to test their skills against the top-level competition. According to words of the "Northern Forest" organiser and Russian two-times motorsport champion Ruslan Misikov: "Not all Russian drivers have a possibility to go abroad and fight with European competitors there. But not being able to remove an obstacle, we can avoid it, so let’s bring the foreign crews to us!"

The organisers of "Baja Russia - Northern Forest" do follow another fundamental rule according to which you must think in a long-term perspective and prepare everything in advance. That is why preparations to the race have already started, and the future route’s reconnaissance is being done now. Moreover, we can probably expect some new tracks for 2010.

"Formally the FIA International Cup for Cross-Country Bajas calendar hasn’t been approved yet, so we can’t give a 100% guarantee that the "Northern Forest" Baja will maintain the high status of being its round" the organizers said. "However in FIA observers’ judgement the race meets absolutely all international standards, and people in the FIA were glad to accept the decision of Russian organisers to continue their work. So there’re no doubts that "Baja Russia - Northern Forest" will get full support from the world motorsport’s governing body."
