NPO Rally of Tunisia: Rediscovers the great spirit of African rallies.

Desert, adventure, navigation, competition and conviviality are the foundations of the 2009 edition, which will be held from 22 April - 2 May 2009. The Rally of Tunisia will be the first leg of the World Cup Cross Country Rally for Car-Truck and the Motorbike-Quadbike World Championship. On the programme of this major African rally: a labyrinth of sandy and technical tracks, long off-piste sections through the majestic ergs of southern Tunisia and encounters with Libya’s cathedral-like dunes. Breathtaking landscapes, a top quality course, a precise and reliable road-book, rigorous organisation, excellent security and a great atmosphere…all the ingredients to make the 2009 vintage a roaring success!

For the 2008 edition, NPO chose to extend the course beyond Tunisia’s borders with four stages in Libya. Widely approved by the 250 competitors in the race, a Libyan section will be included in the 2009 rally, but with new tracks to offer even more varied terrain. With 5,000 kilometres to race, a super-section in Tunis and ten stages including a marathon stage (without assistance), this rally is certainly demanding but, in line with the values NPO holds dear, it is still very accessible - to everyone! Professional, amateur and beginner drivers will find what they are looking for and fully express their driving skills whatever their level may be. Particular attention will be paid to the assistance course, ensuring the least possible constraints for the longer sections of the rally. In future, the Tunisia rally may also be extended… Watch this space!

Rally of Tunisia 2009 will be the first stage of the FIA World Cup for Cross country for cars and trucks and the first leg of the FIM World Championship for Cross country for motorbikes and ATVs. Everyone can express their driving and navigating talents. It will also be a great opportunity for amateurs to measure up to the greatest names in the field. Alongside the traditional categories and to open the Rally up to a maximum number of competitors, NPO is retaining the "Enduro Cup" (original bikes and quads with refuelling every 90km) and “Class Open” categories (cars and trucks with basic preparation).

In terms of the race course and the road-book, as usual NPO is offering great quality matched with reliability and precision. Security and safety have been carefully studied as with all NPO events, to avoid the traps and pitfalls of the desert. With permanent Iritrack monitoring of every competitor, 3 helicopters, 2 planes and over 20 doctors present, safety is rigorously ensured.

For the first time, 2009 entry fees include accommodation for the technical and administrative checks. Of course, return transportation (France-Tunisia-France) for participants and vehicle by boat is also included in the entry fee. The Tunisia Rally represents the best value for money for races of its kind. To ensure a convivial and safe rally, the maximum number of participants has been set at 150 for bikes and quads and 150 for cars and trucks. NPO also offers preferential rates for amateur competitors. For the first 30 motorbikes and ATVs registered, the transportation of one 80L trunk and the machine will be included in the entry fee. In case of abandon, the bikes and drivers will be returned to Tunis by NPO.

To share the bivouac atmosphere and celebrate everyone’s achievements, NPO is offering a VIP 4-day trip; great times to share with competitors.
