OiLibya Rally: Novitskiy and Tyupenkin among the favourites.

Russian crew Leonid Novitskiy and Oleg Tyupenkin have passed the administrative formalities successfully and are waiting for the start of the second stage of the FIA World Cup. Although the competiton at the 2009 OiLibya Rally promises to be fierce with Guerlain Chicherit, Orlando Terranova, Eric Vigouroux, Christian Lavieille, Nicolas Misslin and, last but not least, ’living legend’ Jean-Louis Schlesser at the starting line, regarding their great results achieved in 2008 and their performance at the 2009 Dakar, Novitskiy and Tyupenkin are considered to be one of the favourites by both the organisers and the media.

In Tunisie and Libya the Russian crew will compete with a new specification BMW X3CC. The new car is had successful tests in Abu Dhabi at the ned of March and Novitskiy is very satisfied with the development of the car after the Dakar. „We hope that the car will show its full potential and will obtain the highest scores in the FIA classification,” said Novitskiy before leaving for Tunisia.

Another interesting thing is that Guerlain Chicherit and his Swedish co-driver, 2008 Baja Cup and World Cup winner Tina Thörner are to start... under the flag of Team X-Raid Russia! Recently Chicherit spent a weekend in Moscow where he met Leonid Novitskiy and reached an agreement. This decision has been approved by X-Raid team boss Sven Quandt and is said not to have any structural or financial effect on Team X-Raid BMW.

During Chicherit’s stay in Moscow he, Novitskiy and Tyupenkin also agreed to have some promotional actions together and discussed the preparation for OiLibya Rally. Now all cross-country rally fans are waiting for the start of the eleven day event where the crews are to cover more than four thousand kilometres, out of which 3274 will be against the clock.
