OiLibya Rally 2009 Special-Newssection (FIA Cross Country Worldcup)

This is the single-news section of the special of the OiLibya Rally 2009, second round of the FIA Worldcup for Cross Country Rallys. To see all news please use the link under the article or navigate with the left main-navigation.

OiLibya Rally: What they said after Stage 4 Ras El Oued-Derj.

Guerlain Chicherit - X-Raid BMW X3CC: "I wanted to attack to make up for the time I lost yesterday. At km 40 I caught Christian (Lavieille) and was stuck behind him for 100 km. I am furious, because I wanted to drive fast - It was extremely frustrating."

Leonid Novitskiy - X-Raid BMW X3CC: "The special was great. We attacked hard and posted the second fastest time. I am in a good position for the Marathon stage and I will try and stay in that place so as to manage my race."

Orlando Terranova - X-Raid BMW X3CC: "I didn’t take any chances today opening the piste. The navigation was complicated but we didn’t make any
mistakes. Tomorrow’s stage is very important and I have to take care of the car. In 2008 we had a problem with the turbo in Libya and had to pull out of the race. This year the car has proved very reliable."

Christian Lavieille - Nissan Dessoude Proto: "We let Guerlain pass the first time we got the Sentinel message. We were really fairplay and if he was stuck behind us for a long time it is because we didn’t see him. I am sorry for him but that’s the race. On the marathon we will have to take care and not damage the car."

Eric Vigouroux - Chevrolet Trophy Truck: "At km 6 of a twisty piste we hit a bump on the inside of a corner. The front right wheel was damaged and we crushed the power steering pipe. We stopped at the assistance point to carry out repairs and lost 50 minutes on the leaders."

Jean-Louis Schlesser - Porsche Buggy: "A little fast for us" nice pistes, but quite bumpy. Difficult to go after the BMWs - these days the performance gap is big. Hopefully we will encounter more favourable terrain later on."

Marc Coma - KTM: "It was a tricky special today and easy to get lost. I was worried I wasn’t going to make it to the finish because 20 kms from the end the rear mousse started to melt. I obviously lost a little time, but the important thing is that I am here and first across the line. Tomorrow’s marathon stage is very long and might well be a turning point in the race."

Jordi Viladoms - KTM: "The special was very fast towards the end, but difficult to navigate as well, with a lot of changes of direction. I really made a big effort to not make any mistakes and finally finished second behind Marc. Tomorrow will be long."

Cyril Despres - KTM: "I didn’t get off to a great start this morning. At km 30 I missed a note and got on to the wrong piste. By the time I had realised and got back on the right piste quite a few minutes had gone by. Further on my trip was a little out and again I made a costly mistake. This stage wasn’t easy and I don’t think tomorrow’s marathon stage will be any easier."

David Casteu - KTM: "I lost quite a lot of time today with the navigation as there were pistes everywhere and it wasn’t easy to attack and follow the road book at the same time. I think also we have all forgot a little the art of navigating in Africa. On the other hand it shows that anything can still happen, and with the marathon stage coming up we could be in for some surprises."

Bruno Da Costa - KTM: "I am pleased to have posted the fastest 450 class time, but we have to take care because the pistes are tricky and we aren’t even halfway through. My objective is the same as on the Rallye du Maroc, to enjoy myself, and if I have a good result at the end, well then so much the better."
