During six legs, from Tozeur to Tozeur, by crossing the Tunisian desert and the magic oasis of Ksar Ghilane, the 30th anniversary of the Rally OiLibya of Tunisia was largely celebrated and offered a beautiful show from the first to the last day of the competition.
Fighting, as usual, Jean-Louis Schlesser on his Buggy Sonangol, never slowed the pace down facing strong competitors and ending widely ahead on the two wheel drive category. Result of this perfect race: a new podium in the overall classification with a great second position behind the BMW of Russian Leonid Novitskiy.
Signing a magnificent stage win, 100 % sand-colored, the blue buggy was flying over the dunes and was even a time leading the overall classification of this third World Cup round.
Navigated by Konstantin Zhilstov, Jean-Louis Schlesser was a key competitor of the event. The driver - designer of the Buggy Sonangol is now strongly leading the World cup.
"I am extremely satisfied with this result which consolidates our position at the top of the World cup on the two wheel-drive category" said Schlesser after the Rally.
"It was a beautiful fight! A finish at the second position between Leonid's and Nani's BMWs is a good thing especially since the regulations are not in our favour comparing to big diesel engines. I just wish things change in the future."
"I appreciate this second place but I am especially happy to have been able to participate in this event on the Tunisian ground. I won six times in Tunisia and this country gave me so much emotion that it’s just natural for me to be there. It was a great moment and a very beautiful race."
Next round of the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies, the Baja Spain from 22nd to 24th of July.
