Optic Tunisia: Official Statement from Stéphane Clair, NPO-Director.

"We have just heard about the official announcement of a new race organised for the same dates as the 2008 TUNISIA RALLY, the first event of FIA World Cup for Cross-country Rallies, and a major event of the FIM World Championship for Cross-Country Rallies, (23rd April to 3rd May 2008).

We deplore that a sporting presence can be ignored to such an extent and the World Cup threatened. More importantly, we are sad that the entire discipline could be so unbalanced. This decision is incomprehensible at a time when organisers, official teams, private competitors and partners have chosen to work together to standardise the regulations, calendars and schedules and to encourage the media coverage of the different events.

Who could have imagined that competitors would have to choose between an invitation to take part in a "compensation" event or the first African rally-raid of the season? Who could accept that assistance teams would have to split in half to serve all their customers and double their costs, for the simple reason that an organiser is looking to embarrass one of its competitors?

Why should Africa once again be the victim of a poor decision? At NPO, we privilege dialogue and discussion in all areas. At NPO, we are a human-sized independent company where sport is the top priority. In simple terms, we want to share our love of Africa and the desert with the greatest number of people; we want to share our passion for adventure, motorsports and competition.

We would like to reassure the 100 motorcyclists and quad-bikers, 80 car pilots and co-pilots, the teams of the 10 T4 trucks and all the assistance vehicles already registered for the race that we are preparing an exceptional 2008 rally for them. You will enjoy a great race, with a great atmosphere and international media coverage.

The local hospitality, the renewed involvement and confidence of the International Sports Federations (FIA & FIM), the French (FFSA & FFM), Tunisian (NACT & FTM) and Libyan Federations, our loyal partners the Tunisian National Tourism Office and Tunisair, the support of our sponsors (the Town of Marseille, Optic 2000, Servair) and all our press partners are the guarantors of formidable success. You are the legend of rally-raids.

We will take care of you and make your dreams become reality in Tunisia and in other great African
