Pharaons 2006: Nissan Aventure maintains fifth place overall.

Siwa, the end point of today´s leg, was the fourth oasis to be visited by the 2006 edition of the Rally of the Pharaohs. Team Nissan Aventure had a few small worries today, but these did not dent their supremacy in the Production category. Still lying fifth overall, the Giza Pyramids are getting closer.
Today, between Baharija and Siwa, the Team Nissan Aventure crew had a few small problems with a sensor connection, as also happened on the first day. But it was not to prove too serious, as the reason behind the problem has definitely been identified. Overall, Christian Lavieille lost around ten minutes, but he still has a healthy lead in the T2 category, as he is one hour and 24 minutes ahead of Laurent Rosso´s Pathfinder.
Christian is still full of confidence: "Like the first day, we had a few problems with a sensor. We had to stop three times to sort out the connection. This means we lost around ten minutes. The most important thing is that we have pinpointed the origins of the problem. Today´s big satisfaction is that we didn´t get stuck in the dunes, we didn´t have any punctures and the Pathfinder didn´t overheat. The start of the special stage was quite soft, but globally, the route was quite fast. We went over some big dunes, some of which were very steep. We also had some broken dunes, which are always tricky. The scenery was rather nice, and the temperatures were bearable. Up till now, we haven´t suffered too much from the heat. In the category, we now have a lead of nearly one and a half hours over the other Pathfinder. There are two more days to go, and both Arnaud and I really want to see the Sphinx on Monday!"
Arnaud Debron, as always, remained calm: "It is rather annoying to have to stop three times, but that´s racing. The stage had no real problems in terms of navigation, and apart from that sensor which caused us problems, the Pathfinder went like clockwork." As for André Dessoude, he saw no reason to panic: "The problem with the sensor connection is quite minor. Of course, it´s a shame to have lost some time, but everything is going well. I am not worried. Just like Christian and Arnaud, I can´t wait to see them reach Cairo."
Tomorrow, they will head back towards Baharija. After 4 kilometres of liaison, a 430 km timed stage is on the menu for those remaining in contention for this 9th Rally of the Pharaohs. The start will take place close to the Siwa bivouac, directly by the first dunes, all off-track. The stage will be full of soft sand and large broken dunes. But there will also be some rocky sections, and passages through very narrow wadis. The finish will take place on the cliff overlooking Baharija, close to the bivouac.
