Pharaons 2006: Nissan Aventure strengthens its lead in T2.

Today, the duo of Lavieille and Debron increased its lead over the Nissan Pathfinder driven by Laurent Rosso, and now has a margin of over an hour in the overall classification. No problems today for our two friends, who, day by day, are moving closer to the World title.

This third leg, between Dakhla and Farafra, saw a change in the overall lead, but nothing threatened the supremacy of the Team Nissan Aventure Pathfinder at the front of the Production category. Quite to the contrary, Christian Lavieille and Arnaud Debron increased their lead by 20 minutes and now have a margin of more than an hour over their nearest rival. As a bonus, the crew has moved up into the "top five" in the rally´s overall classification.

Christian Lavieille explained today`s happenings: "The first part of the special stage was not much fun. The very soft sand was replaced by rough ground. There were lots of undulations, and plenty of small ravines, which you had to go through in 2nd or 3rd gear. And the downhill sections on the rocks were very difficult. The track was faster in the second part, but we had a headwind for quite a while, which hindered our progress. We stopped once as one of our bibs was tapping on the bottom of the car. Nothing too serious, but it gave Arnaud a chance to relieve himself," he laughed. "The end of the stage was superb, and as far as the heat in the cockpit was concerned, opening the windows made the temperatures bearable. No problems with the Pathfinder, which is going like clockwork. We gained three places overall, and have increased our lead in T2. It´s good, but there are still another four legs before reaching the end."

Arnaud Debron gave his comments, as usual with a humorous touch: "Christian found it a bit difficult to get going this morning. Over the first 50 kilometres, he was a bit asleep, and we were not on the pace. We were like two old men out for a Sunday drive! Afterwards, he picked up the pace and everything went well until the finish point. We?re moving up the classification, which is something we´re far from unhappy about".

André Dessoude, as always keeping a close eye on the crew, is serene: "These are two sensible lads ! Their duty is to take care of their lead and finish first or second in their category on this event. The aim is the World title, and they know it well. At the moment, Christian and Arnaud are putting in an excellent race."

Tomorrow, the rally will return towards Baharija, crossing the White Desert again. The leg includes two timed sectors, the first 205 km long, and the second 169 km.
