Pharaons 2006: What they said after Leg 2

Cars

Jose Luis Monterde (E), BMW X5: "It has been a superb day, without any trouble. The landscape was astounding, really wonderful and the ground was a pleasure for driving. We have seen the dust from Muller far away from us and we took advantage of a faster track portion in order to make the difference."

Yvan Muller (F), Nissan Proto Dessoude: "I am getting every day more used to this new environment. Today we have opened the track and I have to say that I have been learning a lot. The pace was pretty high, but we went across very beautiful places, especially downhill a sand cliff. It was like if we were skiing off the track, but with a steering wheel in his hands. What a wonderful feeling."

Sergey Shmakov (RUS), Buggy Zil: "Today we have suffered some problems with our rear brakes. But from tomorrow, we will put some pressure on Monterde, because the duel will be between him and us for the victory. I have to finish on the podium to be guaranteed to get the world title."

Bikes

Marc Coma (E), KTM 660 Rally: "It has been a perfect day. Jordi and I have ridden together and have experienced a stage without any difficulties. The landscape was wonderful and it is for us all about an excellent training for the Dakar. "

David Casteu (F), KTM 660: "Of course, it was a better day than yesterday. I would like to express my gratitude to all the pilots who let me pass them easily. I don’t know exactly how many I have overtaken, but it was amazing. I rode at a pretty high pace and physically, everything was fine. I was so at ease that I could even increase my speed at the end. Finally, I am finishing just three minutes behind Coma. In these conditions, I couldn’t expect a better end… Since I have filled the gap with the top pilots, I am back in the race and I hope to remain competitive until the end of the rally…"

Francisco Lopez (Ch), Honda 450: "I took again a really good start, but after the CP2, my rear wheel started to behave strangely. Hopefully, at the assistance, Fausto and Roberto, the mechanics from Graziani and De Gavardo literally saved me by helping me to repair the spokes as well as the crown of my wheel in order to come back into the race in the best conditions, and preventing me from wasting precious time."
