Pharaons 2006: What they said after Leg 4

Motos

Jordi Arcarons (E), Team manager : "Thanks to the new regulation, the bikes competition is going back to former values, giving a key-role to the navigation. Today, it is not sufficient to turn the right grip of the handlebar to the maximum to win a stage, one has to know how to navigate, and that’s what I am trying to teach to my riders."

Marc Coma (E), KTM 660 Rally: "Usually, I am wasting a lot of time against my opponents during the stages divided in two parts by starting in front of them. It was then quite interesting to start behind this time, which allowed me to take benefit of the situation. I could also take advantage of the good navigation of the first riders to test the top speed of my bike. However, during the first part of the stage, the fuel consumption was much higher as usual, the sand being very soft."

David Casteu (F), KTM 660: " I am really satisfied from this stage because I have been able to open the trail most of the time. Marc Coma even came to congratulate me for the navigation at the end. Today, I shift from rank 7th to rank 6th , but the 5th position is now just under 40 minutes ahead from me. In three days of race, the top 5 is reachable. But to step on the podium in Cairo next week, some of the top riders will have to make mistakes."

Cars and Trucks

Sergey Shmakov (RUS), Buggy Zil : "First of all I would like to thank all of my mechanics, who have worked overnight to change the gear-box of the buggy. Today we were able to take the maximum out of our car to attack on a track, which was well suited to the Buggy. Indeed we are not taking so much time back to our main opponent, but we will keep going with this high pace in order to put as much pressure as we can on the leading BMW. Anyway, next Monday in Cairo, the most important for us will be to be on the podium to celebrate our world title."

Christian Lavieille (F), Nissan Pathfinder : "We did an excellent choice of tires today by adopting the G3, the sand-tire from BF Goodrich. This allowed us to go easily through this stage, even if we had to pay more attention at the beginning of the second part of the stage, particularly rich in trial regions."
