Pharaons 2006: What they said after Stage 3

Bikes

Carlo De Gavardo (CHI), KTM 660 Rally: "I have managed a perfect stage. During the two previous ones, I did few navigation mistakes and I was not feeling the right pace. I After having filled the gap with David (Casteu), we came back together on the head duo. Close to the end of the stage, David was in front of us, when he did a navigation mistake, which allowed us to overtake him."

David Casteu (F), KTM 660: "Except for the start, with some technical parts requiring a great attentino, the track of the day was relatively fast. Actually perfect for the biggest motorbikes. I did my best to optimise the navigation in order to come back as soon as possible on Coma and Viladoms. Unfortunately, I missed a change of course, which induced a waste of time. Carlos took the advantage to rush off with Marc and Jordi. Their 740 were more powerful than my 660, and I never managed to close the gap with them."

Marc Coma (E), KTM 660 Rally: "I didn’t try to force my pace during the first part of the stage because the track was very changing and I didn’t want to risk too much. Jordi and David, and then Carlo did the connection rather quickly and we finished the timed special almost together. David was making the trail until he missed a course change."

Francisco Lopez (CHI), Honda 450: "Even if I was feeling really at ease during the first part of the stage, the second part has been much more boring for me, I almost fell asleep on my bike the track being so fast. Impossible to follow the pace of the biggest engines with my small 450. Then I only tried to preserve my engine, while minimizing the time waste."

Cars

Jose Luis Monterde (E), BMW X5: "This morning, we have decided with Jean-Marie to attack all along the stage. We managed to keep a high pace from the start to the end, and I have to say that my copilot provided me a perfect navigation. We didn’t know that Shmakov was facing some problems and then, at the finish line, the results was even better. Nevertheless I have to admit that this stage has been physically very hard for me, mainly due to the many shocks."

Sergey Shmakov (RUS), Buggy Zil: "We wanted to put some pressure on Monterde. Unfortunately, the gear-box has presented some weaknesses already before CP1, which allowed Nobre to overtake us. Then we managed to catch up with him again after he got a flat tire. We will change the gear-box tonight and tomorrow we will be able to take the maximum out of our car! Otherwise, we are very satisfied with the new handling settings that we have brought to the front suspension and chassis."

Prisca Tartuffi (ITA), Nissan Pickup: " I have been very surprised by a rock strip, slightly to the left of the ideal trail. Then the car lay down on its side. Fortunately, Sandor Kis helped me to get out of this bad situation. But with Franco we had to finish the stage with only two wheels driving."
