 | Pharaons Rally: Bad start for Eric Vigouroux and Alex Winocq in Protruck.
|
Close to the middle of the special, the Trophy Truck of Eric Vigouroux lost more than two hours at the this first stage. But the importance is to stay in the race... "During the first part of the special section, we drove fast, at the same rhythm of Schlesser", explained Eric.
"We were in front of him at CP2, then, on a parallel track, he overtook us again. The way became narrow, and in the dust of Schlesser, we saw that there was a step, but it was too late. I slowed down, but the brake pads were drawn aside, and the car hardly slowed down. We took the step at 155 km/h, the car left out the barrel, landing on the side."
No sores for the crew, but Trophy Truck was somewhat damaged. Once the car was back on its wheels with the assistance of Jerome Pélichet, who did not hesitate to stop to give them a blow of strap, Eric and Alex changed a burst wheel, and slightly repaired the body.
Then, the crew finished the special section at low speed with a twisted front triangle and a broken shock absorber. On arrival, they had a delay of 2h20 over the best time of special, signed by Jean-Louis Schlesser. "But nothing is lost", estimated Eric. "Tonight we will work on the car and try to go up, in order to glean some points in the two wheels drive trophy. The rally has indeed just started, and there are still five days of race to go, with nearly 1,800 km of SS. So, everything is still possible."
